The need for Calm

As children grow, they are developing self-regulation skills to help them process their environments without becoming overwhelmed. This growth can be supported by providing children with the tools they need to manage sensory processing, emotional regulation, and social skills.

When they are are feeling stressed or anxious it can be difficult to focus on anything else but the feelings they are experiencing. Chewing on ends of pencils, clothing, hair, playing with your ring or cracking knuckles are all known as fidgeting. Spinning rings and thumb stones can be used as self-regulation tools which can help increase attention and focus.

These tools can be used to increase tactile input and promote movement which can be essential for students and professionals alike. They can also have a calming effect for those experiencing anxiety and can boost active listening.

Whatever your parenting philosophy, your reasoning for supporting your child is the same: to facilitate their development and ability to regulate themselves and to be happy, calm and confident kids.
